Pat Owen is from Columbia, Missouri, and received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Columbia College in 2015. Pat has completed three residencies: The Emerging Artists Residency at Resident Arts in 2017, The Artist in Residence Program at Access Arts from 2018 through 2019, and most recently Sager Braudis Gallery Artist Residency. Owen’s nontraditional portraits utilize a playful color palette and texturally complex compositions to explore ideas of identity and social constructs. Heavily-applied texture brings a sensorial layer to the experience of these works, serving as a reminder that touch and intimacy are essential in maintaining sensual and genuine human connectivity during an intensely polarizing and a divisive moment in time.
