Ortega

Osmeivy Ortega was born in 1980 in Havana. After studying law for five years, Ortega changed directions to pursue a career as an artist. He studied at the Instituto de Artes Superior in Havana, where he now teaches printmaking and keeps his own studio. He was the 2017 recipient of the Cuban National Prize in Printmaking. He combines symbolic depictions of animals with his own nostalgic memories and imagery from domestic environments and antique family photos to create surreal scenes that ultimately speak to human desires, emotions, and relationship to memory.
