Liao
Kathy Liao holds an MFA in Painting from Boston University and a BFA in Painting and Drawing from University of Washington-Seattle. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Artist Award and an Anderson Ranch Arts Center fellowship. Liao’s work explores rituals of daily life through the lens of the immigrant family. As an artist of Taiwanese descent, she brings her own experience of separation, longing, and ritual into not only her subject matter, but also her process: “I touch, wipe, peel, and caress my drawing surfaces, constantly re-establishing my relationship to my family, conscientious of my distance [from them] physically and emotionally.”
