Leder

Jeffrey Leder is new to the Sager Braudis Gallery roster of artists but has engaged art and the art world throughout his life, from the pencil drawings he made as a child in New York and then Puerto Rico, to his explorations of color back in New York as a young adult, to the application of Bauhaus philosophy in his current studio practice, now based in South Carolina. His modernist approach seeks to construct compositions free from romanticism, embellishment, and caprice. Absent recognizable subject matter, Leder is free to explore the relationship between form and color: how size, shape, and intensity of hue affect each other within a given space, and how colors and forms can be dissonant and harmonious at the same time. In service of a sense of the purity of art, he formally structures each piece so that color -and the intellectual and emotional effect of each color- is focal.
