Johnson

Zachary Johnson grew up in the small town of Senath, Missouri. He holds a BFA in Printmaking from The University of Missouri (2020). In 2019 Zachary was one of twenty-six undergraduates chosen to attend the Yale Norfolk School of Art, and has since held a solo exhibition, “Is This Thing On?” at Resident Arts in Columbia, Missouri before debuting his work with Sager Braudis Gallery in the current exhibit. Johnson’s methodical drawing is influenced by ideas of structure versus spontaneity. He deals with rule-based systems by adhering to a rigorous structure or by resisting pre-existing ideals. Using a monotonous mark-making process focused on breath, sequence, and rhythm, he makes visual records of his own temporal existence.
