Purdy
Terrance Purdy was the Sager Braudis Gallery Exhibition Award winner at the 2018 Visual Art & Design Showcase at the University of Missouri. Having now completed his BA in Photography, Black Studies, and Art History, he is currently a candidate for MFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York. At its core, Purdy’s work is about identity. He says, “African Americans have always been in the unique circumstance of having to create our own culture in a society that is always taking from it. We are constantly looking for ways to reconstruct our own identities, and I am interested in this process.” Through a masterful series of photographic portraits, Purdy explores the archetypes and influences (from fashion, to sports, to religion) that shape identity for Black Americans.
