Issa

Sajeda Issa is a multidisciplinary artist from St. Louis, Missouri. She received her BFA in Ceramics from Webster University and is currently an Artist-in-Residence at Belger Crane Yard Studio in Kansas City, Missouri. Issa creates works that reinterpret domestic objects and scenes to speak to her experience of religion and politics, as someone who feels denied her cultural existence and Palestinian ancestral history. Composing with both handmade and found domestic objects, Issa reveals an undercurrent of hostility and discomfort in the social, cultural, and political landscape. Representations of displacement, identity, and East-West dynamic are emphasized in Issa’s work, often with a strong tie to craft methods and materials such as clay, fibers, or embroidery, referencing the traditions and culture on which she works to comment.
