Octavio

Irving

Octavio Irving was born in Villa Clara, Cuba, in 1978. He attended the San Alejandro Fine Arts Academy and then the Arts University of Cuba, with a specialty in Printmaking. Sager Braudis Gallery was introduced to his work while visiting the famed Havana print studio, Taller Experimental de Gráfica, in 2017, and including several of his etchings in the inaugural Cuban Contemporary Exhibit. The drawn and painted works of the September Exhibit extend themes present in the earlier featured work, namely an iconography of forms with a sense of space. These shapes allude to domestic exteriors and monoliths, reduced and simplified, arranged to interact in an imagined landscape.
