Stigliani

Narratives within an imaginary world, Claire Stigliani says, allow her to play out fears, fascinations, and new knowledge that she seeks to better integrate and understand. To inform her painting, she studies traditional folk tales, and is focused of late on story motifs featuring brides as primary protagonists. Brimming with rich detail, her complex compositions house a wealth of imagery, trusting the viewer to dwell with, decipher, and imagine a cast of characters, their relationships, and how their stories progress. Stigliani manipulates and reinterprets familiar narrative territory, hoping to encourage examination of the character archetypes we each inhabit and enact in our relationships.
