Baird
Chellis Baird is a New York-based artist whose work beautifully balances techniques and qualities of painting, sculpture, and textiles. Deconstructed canvases, the basis of her work, are woven, twisted, painted, dyed, and sculpted to form what are essentially 3-dimensional brushstrokes in abstract compositions with a great sense of movement and meticulous detail. Baird received her BFA in textiles from Rhode Island School of Design and studied studio art at the Art Students League in New York City. Her background in fashion feeds her innovative use of materials, as she emphasizes the structure and texture of each piece.
