Duey

Brie Duey was born and raised in north central Missouri and holds a BA in Art and Design from Columbia College Chicago. Duey’s oil paintings have been collected nationally and have been featured in HER Magazine and BROAD Magazine, among other publications. Her work is an examination of the need for reconciliation between humans and nature. The Feminine- repeatedly symbolized in Duey’s work by female figures and hands- is the spirit of empathy and nurture necessary for healing. Plants and animals are presented as bearers of magic as in green lore. Varying versions of forests, prairies, and nests, naturally, comprise the spaces where Duey’s subjects all meet. With reference to Surrealism and Magical Realism, the artist reimagines a symbiotic relationship between people and the natural environment that surrounds and affects us
