Brandan
Styles
Brandan Styles is a Colorado native currently living and working in Denver. A BFA in Media Arts and Animation (Art Institute of Colorado, 2008), as a painter and sculptor Styles considers himself largely self-taught. Paintings on wood and paper, hand cut wood relief, and mixed media sculpture comprise series that, while highly visually cohesive, house individual stories and stand-alone scenes. The work Styles brings to the October Exhibit revolves around a theme the artist calls, “Weirdo Spiritualism.” Influenced by mythology, theater, folklore, surrealism, alchemy, and occultism, Styles creates archetypal characters (“Weirdos”) and places them within structures and implied narratives that readily mix the sacred and the absurd.
