Peregrine Honig works with themes of beauty, vulnerability, and exploitation in multiple series. Collectors include The Art Institute of Chicago and The Whitney Museum of American Art, where Honig, at the age of 22, became the youngest living artist to have work acquired by the collection. In her intaglio series and body of mixed media figurative works presented in the Autumn Exhibit, Honig depicts acquiescent mother-proxies unnaturally nurturing infant animals who are simultaneously innocent and exploitative. These works infuse a classical aesthetic with the disquieting, also-classical Greek mythology of cross-species sexuality and maternity. Ultimately, Honig's viewers must consider a sometimes-uncomfortable link between nurture and surrender.
