Michele Ledoux was born outside of Boston and relocated to Boulder, Colorado in 1990 after graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a formal education in Philosophy. She currently resides and works as a full-time artist in Evergreen, Colorado, in the midst of the Rocky Mountains. Her work is held in numerous private collections and has been widely exhibited nationally and internationally, garnering multiple “Best of Show” awards. Ledoux’s process is involved and highly integral to the meaning of her work. She characterizes her studio time in this way: “...formulate a plan and then ditch it. Build it up. Tear it down. Take the most complex concept and strip it to plain and simple.” Neutral in palette and influenced by Minimalism, the work often arrives at simplicity of composition, but via an evident path of evolution, expression, and manifold mark-making interactions. Uneven surfaces, cuts, cracks, and hatches pull toward sculptural relief, in what the artist calls “a denial of perfection,” allowing spontaneity back into the realm of the geometric abstract.
