Benjamin Parks is a Kansas City based artist whose primary focus is painting large-scale portraits and figurative work, though he also produces illustrations, interactive installations, music, printmaking, and sculpture. He has exhibited widely across the United States, including at the Leedy Voulkos Art Center, the Foundry Arts Centre, the Lawrence Arts Center, the Cee Flat Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, the KCAC, and the Hilliard Gallery. In all of his work, Parks looks to capture the essence of his subject, an expressive approach imbuing each piece with personality and meaning. While the ultimate portraits may seem more precise than gestural, they are built through layer after layer of energetic marks, the history of their creation still visible, vulnerable, in their final forms.
