Derek Fox is a painter based in Columbia, Missouri, whose work centers on representational landscape, often created both en plein air and in the studio. In addition to landscape, he maintains an active practice in still life and portraiture. Fox is also a professor of Veterinary Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Missouri’s Veterinary Health Center, where his background in medical illustration has informed a strong foundation in drawing and the observation of complex forms. He has studied with painters including Joe Paquet, Don Demers, and Marc Anderson, and has received recognition in plein air competitions across the state, as well as a SkyArts Portrait Artist of the Week award in 2020. We have followed Fox’s work for some time and are delighted to introduce him to our audience as the newest member of the Sager Reeves Gallery roster.
